HI, I’M AMIE!

I am a professional artist and I love to create hand drawn, realistic wildlife portraits using coloured pencil.

I’m entirely self taught with coloured pencils and upon starting my journey, I found it so incredibly difficult to find any resources that could guide me and my techniques for what I wanted to do. So, I developed my own techniques and learned how to control and use coloured pencil to achieve the realistic portraits you see here. These techniques, and everything I've learned, are what I teach today.

I’ve since gone on to have tutorials and work featured in 2 main Coloured Pencil magazines, as well as now being a published author. And I believe that I have found my life calling – teaching others, like you, to draw realistic wildlife & pet portraits, just like me.

Materials

Before starting any of the practical work, I walk you through exactly what you’ll need to complete your chosen tutorial. I even provide a PDF full of pencil colours and the whole list of tools you'll need so you’re never stuck as to what you'll be using. Most of materials make use of Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils however, sometimes I will use other brands alongside. I have colour chart comparisons to help aid you in picking appropriate colours from your own coloured pencil supply.

Line Art

I provide an easy to use line art which is ready for download so you can trace your subject for an accurate, easy starting point, should you be a little intimidated about creating your onw line art, or if you just want to jump in straight away and get drawing. Ready-to-go line art takes away the stress of getting proportions and placements right and lets you focus on the all important aspects of pure coloured pencil work.

Real Time Instruction

Each tutorial is real time and full length, with full narration, meaning that you draw with me every single step along the way. I describe each step, every technique and colour used exactly as I’m doing it, which takes out all the guesswork and frustration of what to do or use. I also explain why I am using certain colours and methods so you can start to see reasoning and apply the methods much easier to your own projects.

On newer tutorials, the reference image is added to the video screen so you can see the whole image as I'm working away - which I've found helps students with recognising placements of colours and various textures.

Technique Deconstruction

I deconstruct each technique used which gives you a clear understanding of how to apply and use your pencils, from shading, blending, glazing and more! These are essential foundations to coloured pencil work and I give you my EXACT methods.

With deconstruction, I take the questioning out of methods and techniques and provide a clear explanation to the thought process and reasoning behind certain decisions and the expected outcomes. This makes it so much easier to apply to your own projects in future and encourages to learning pattern to make it second nature when you're drawing.

CRITIQUES

Submit your work each month to be critiqued for valuable feedback on areas to improve and what you're already acing. Critiques are provided via video and grouped together with your other fellow students work. Critiques are provided in this group way and via video so that students can see and learn about different types of feedback and utilise the thinking when creating work.
